Collaborative Partners

Illinois Department of Human Services
The Illinois Department of Human Services' Division of Community
Health and Prevention Substance Abuse and Primary Prevention Program
demonstrates commitment to capacity development for Student Assistance by supporting evidence based technical assistance to SAPs. Community-Based Grant Providers whose workplans are funded through IDHS may choose to provide evidence based SAP technical assistance to one or more schools in their
service area. Through this workplan, Providers receive guidance from the Center for Prevention Research and Development to maintain quality efforts.

The Department's newest approach to support Student Assistance
provides funding for two full-time SAP Regional Coordinators in the state who
will be assisting schools with data driven decision-making, training and
technical assistance needs.

Illinois State Board of Education
The Illinois State Board of Education supports Student Assistance in Illinois through collaborative planning and trainings throughout the state. The Student Assistance Center participates in the prevention partners advisory committee administered by the Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Act (SDFSCA) Program. The Principles of Effectiveness must serve as the core framework for decisions about how SDFCA dollars are expended. Both the SDFCA Program administrator and the SAC Director advocate for Student Assistance by building capacity with other state collaborative prevention partnerships. The Illinois State Board of Education supports a number of Student Assistance trainings through the Safe Schools statewide initiative. Student Assistance is an approved use of federal Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities funds. Schools interested in using SDFSCA funds to support their SAPs should consult with their district’s NCLB grant administrator.

Center for Prevention Research and Development
The Center for Prevention Research and Development at the University of Illinois provides collaborative support for the Student Assistance Center through information and advice on evaluation efforts. CPRD and the SAC meet periodically during the year to discuss program evaluation strategies and to create grant applications intended to expand evaluation efforts for SAPs in Illinois. CPRD seeks input from the SAC when identifying SAP research based practice indicators and evaluation reporting formats for the Substance Abuse Prevention System.
