Student Assistance Center
The Student Assistance Center (SAC) at Prevention First works with Illinois public and private schools to support their prevention, intervention and related programs that address non-academic barriers to student success such as violence, mental health issues, relationship issues and substance abuse. The mission of the Center is to develop capacity in schools to implement a systems approach to delivering non-academic services for students and to improve school climate.
Student Assistance Program (SAP)
Interested in starting Student Assistance in your school?
Prevention First is the only organization in Illinois providing comprehensive Student Assistance training and technical assistance to schools to establish Student Assistance Programs, addressing prevention, early intervention, problem-solving and support services to overcome non-academic barriers to achievement. The Student Assistance Center also helps schools integrate Student Assistance with the new U.S. Department of Education mandate that they implement the Response to Intervention (RtI) program.
The Student Assistance Center's technical assistance for new and existing Student Assistance Programs includes developing implementation plans for a formative assessment process to align Student Assistance practices with best practice standards for more experienced teams. The SAC offers Resources that support program strategies to assist with implementation, program development and growth.
The Student Assistance Center also collaborates with the Illinois Association of Student Assistance Professionals (IASAP), the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois Department of Human Services and other organizations to further SAP efforts.
