In this one-day workshop, participants will learn about a trauma-informed approach to sexuality education, which is affirming of young people and their choices, inclusive of gender and sexual diversity, and free of judgement and shaming. In this workshop we present data on adolescent sexual health and the effects of trauma on sexual risk taking behaviors. We examine cultural attitudes around sexuality and sex education as represented in popular media, and think through what effects this messaging may have on youth who have experienced trauma. We’ll also talk about what a trauma informed approach to sexuality education entails, and practice new skills for modifying or adapting existing programs/curricula/practices to make them more trauma-informed. Priority will be given to PREPP grantees for this training.
