This half day workshop is designed for substance abuse prevention providers and community coalition members. It will feature two experts in the field sharing information on marijuana prevention considerations for today’s communities.

 

Marijuana Prevention Strategies for a Changing Political Landscape

Joseph Eberstein,Program Manager, Center for Community Research, will describe how San Diego's Marijuana Prevention Initiative (MPI) has successfully developed effective prevention resources and materials. Mr. Eberstein will discuss data-driven prevention messaging and best practices for maintaining strategic collaborations with professionals in the health and science fields and how their work evolved within a changing political climate.

 

Applying Three Lessons about Prevention to Explore the Culture of Driving Under the Influence of Cannabis

Jay Otto, Research Scientist for the Center for Health and Safety Culture at Montana State University, will introduce three lessons from the research that inform effective prevention efforts. With various forms of legalization of cannabis across the country, there is growing concern regarding driving under the influence of cannabis. He will use these lessons to guide a session about a recent national survey completed by the Center exploring the values, beliefs, and attitudes about driving under the influence of cannabis.
