The 2021 Virtual Illinois Cannabis Symposium

With Illinois now having legalized marijuana for recreational use, Prevention First believes that building relationships among stakeholders is paramount to creating a shared understanding from multiple perspectives of the issues associated with legalization. Through this shared understanding, we can identify responsible, measured approaches that balance the economic, social, and public health interests and support mutually beneficial policies, programs, and practices.

Conference Goals

• Create a common understanding of the potential issues and ramifications of the legalization of marijuana in Illinois
• Describe potential ramifications of these issues at the state, local, and organizational levels
• Identify resources and supports to enhance protective factors and mitigate harms

To accomplish these goals, we will, on a virtual platform, moderate panel discussions that will explore the impact of legalization in three areas: on public safety, schools and youth, and the community.
