Join us for an interactive four-day, in-person classroom training that will equip professionals with the knowledge and skills to implement effective, data-driven substance misuse prevention. Grounded in current research and SAMHSA’s Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF), this training connects prevention theory to everyday practice.
Participants will build a strong foundation in behavioral health, the Continuum of Care, and the public health approach to prevention. Participants will also learn to develop a comprehensive approach to prevention and collaborate effectively across sectors to address shared risk factors and improve community health and well-being. This training is perfect for entry-level prevention specialists, individuals seeking certification, public health professionals, and health educators.
The SAPST includes a self-paced online component and in-person classroom training. Before registration for the in-person classroom training will be approved, participants must complete the online course Introduction to Substance Abuse Prevention: Understanding the Basics.
This training is IC&RC Prevention Specialist Credentialing approved. Continuing education hours (CEUs) are only available to participants who complete all training components.
Note: Although some of the content is similar, the SAPTS training does not meet the IDHS SUPP New Worker training requirements of IISUP I, IISUP II, and IISUP III.
